Butter Cream Frosting

This is not an exact recipe, start with these ingredients and add more confectioners sugar and milk if needed to make a little more for decorating, etc...the basic recipe will frost two 8 or 9 inch layer cakes)

1/3 cup butter (5 tablespoons)

1/3 cup crisco (5 tablespoons)

1/4 cup milk

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 to 2 teaspoons vanilla

5 cups confectioners sugar (there are 4 cups in a pound)

3/4 to 1 cup of cocoa if chocolate frosting is desired

• Cream butter and crisco with electric mixer until light and fluffy

• Add 2 cups confectioners sugar, 1/8 cup of milk, the salt and vanilla and continue to mix

• Add the rest of the milk and confectioners sugar and mix well, adjust as needed to get spreading consistency with a little more milk if too stiff or more sugar if too soft, the frosting should hold peaks when you run a knife through it

• Add the cocoa if chocolate frosting is desired and possibly more milk to get the right consistency

  1. Should be labeled "healthy!" We'll post a recipe this weekend (maybe Besnik will post one of his tasty squash recipes!).

  2. Looking forward to it! Waiting for a healthy recipe from Helen and Brady too... and one from Uncle Joey... speaking of healthy, should we expect a marshmallow recipe from Teta Annie soon?!
