4 cups flour
1 pkg yeast
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
oregano and basil to taste
1 egg
2 cups warm (not hot) water
2 or 3 tablespoons of olive oil
Topping: Olive oil and any combination of chopped onions, minced garlic, more spices, grated parmesan, thinly sliced tomatoes, thinly sliced peppers, etc. Whatever you like on top.
Mix dry ingredients. Add liquid ingredients. Cover bowl and let rise 20 to 30 minutes.
Knead on floured surface about 15 strokes. Press into a greased 9 x 13 pan OR place onto greased cookie sheet in a deep round shape OR divide in half and make two flattened ovals on two greased cookie sheets. Spread with olive oil, poke with fingers all over to make indents. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese, spices, any combination of veggies. Let rise 20 to 30 minutes.
Bake at 350 for 15 to 30 minutes depending on thickness of bread. Serve with dipping sauces such as: chopped garlic and spices in oil and balsamic or red wine vinegar or a homemade tomato sauce.
